Project: Kitchen and Dining Room Remodel in Medford, MA (AKA #ProjectBrightAndChic)
Our clients in #ProjectBrightAndChic had lived with their dated kitchen for many years before finally embarking on a full-gut renovation. We were honored to work with this lovely family (including their teenage sons) through our design-build process to completely reimagine their kitchen layout to accommodate the way they like to cook and entertain, and also to reflect the wife’s sophisticated decorating taste in the heart of their home.
By opening load-bearing walls, the new design combined the kitchen, dining room and a sunroom to create an open, airy kitchen and dining area. The color and materials palette in the kitchen is soft and neutral, while the dining area adds a dash of drama, complete with a bar servery that can only be described as sexy and ultra-chic. The result is a modern, airy and stylish space where our clients can enjoy family gatherings and dinner parties for many years to come.
A wall separating the previous kitchen and dining room was removed to allow for a more spacious and efficient layout, including a large kitchen island.
Seating for four at the island allows the entire family to spend time together while prepping, cooking and enjoying casual meals.
The new kitchen layout flows seamlessly into the dining area, a previous sunroom. By removing walls and combining rooms, we were able to create an open, airy kitchen and dining area much more appropriate to how our clients like to entertain.
The visual and tactile veining of the gorgeous honed Super White Quartzite (natural stone) countertop is a showstopper on the large island, which bridges the kitchen to an inviting seating area and the dining area beyond.
Right off the kitchen, the dining table shares space with a bar servery, complete with two undercounter beverage refrigerators, the perfect set-up for an intimate dinner party.
The rich wood and brass tones of the dining area complement the black cabinetry of the bar servery beautifully for a layered and moody mix. Antique mirror is the perfect reflective backsplash for the bar.
Details like metal mesh, decorative corbels, and a change of depth on the wall cabinets make the bar servery cabinetry installation sing.
The overall color palette and materials mix of white and black cabinetry, stainless steel, ceramic tile and glass are thoughtfully layered throughout the kitchen and dining area.
Smart storage solutions were built into the kitchen cabinetry, including a blind corner cabinet pull-out, a dish peg drawer system, and a knife block and cutlery combination drawer insert.
