Project: Primary bathroom remodel in Stoneham, MA (AKA #ProjectCountryComfort)
Welcome to #ProjectCountryComfort, a full-gut primary bathroom remodel in Stoneham. We really enjoyed working with this couple to update their existing bathroom and breathe new textures and colors into the space. With the layout of the bathroom largely staying the same, our goal was to increase functionality and add layers of comfort and luxury, giving our clients a beautiful bathroom that will bring delight every day.

We maximized the layout of the bathroom to incorporate a spacious walk-in shower, large vanity area and freestanding soaking tub. The vanity offers his-and-hers sinks and drawer storage, and a wall-to-counter tower in the center adds linen and toiletries storage.
Aesthetically, we wanted to bring our clients’ warm and inviting country style from the rest of their home into the bathroom. We kept a wall treatment detail around the room, but instead of beadboard, we opted for a streamlined V-groove board on the walls. Instead of a warmer color palette, we freshened things up with blues, taupes, creams and sparkly chrome.
The deep “steel blue” cabinetry finish creates a bold focal point that draws your eye as you enter the bathroom from the primary bedroom. Who wouldn’t want to walk into this gorgeous space every morning?!
The petite soaking tub creates a relaxing oasis under the window. Chrome plumbing fixtures, hardware and accessories add sparkle and help bounce light around the room. The large-format floor tiles – complete with an electric floor heat system underneath! – are laid in a herringbone pattern, which adds subtle pattern.
The layout of the bathroom didn’t change much, with all major fixtures in the same general locations, yet expanding to a double vanity and larger walk-in shower makes much more efficient and functional use of the space.
The custom walk-in shower is a bright note in the room, with creamy subway tiles lining the walls. A privacy wall defines the shower and houses a floating quartz bench inside. On the outside, we ran the V-groove paneling for a continuous and harmonious effect. Our carpentry team and tile installer did an amazing job marrying together all of these materials and transition points!
The vanity’s center tower offers adjustable shelves and a drawer for even more storage. We included an electrical outlet inside the cabinet so that the homeowners can charge toothbrushes and other electronics out of sight.
Peekaboo! Another fun detail in the vanity is the clothes hamper pullout, providing dedicated space for laundry out of the way and out of sight.
The petite soaking tub is so cute and sweet! The shape of the tub and profiled lip leans traditional without feeling too stuffy, and the freestanding tub filler is a stately detail under the window. In the opposite corner, the toilet also has a more traditional style, and the thermostat for the electric floor heat is strategically placed nearby, serving as a great night lite!
The walk-in shower features creamy white subway tile, a showerhead and separate handshower, and corner shelves for shower products. A simple stone bench floats inside the alcove of the privacy wall, for added comfort.
It’s all about the layers in this project! With the herringbone floor tile as a foundation, V-groove paneling on the walls, and a soft yet interesting color palette overall, the bathroom feels intentional, comfortable and timeless.
