Gorgeous and glamorous are just two of the many words we use to describe this showstopping primary bathroom. The full-gut remodel in Stoneham was a true collaboration with our clients, who had a strong vision of a high-contrast, monochromatic design scheme layered with elements of brass and gold, and featuring a luxurious freestanding soaking tub. With other remodeling projects taking place in the home to accommodate their multi-generational family, including two teenagers, the goal for this project was to create a sanctuary just for the parents.
The first order of business was to reconfigure the room, which was a large space but very poorly utilized, with a massive framed jacuzzi tub, a teeny-tiny shower in one corner, and only a single sink vanity. By centering the new freestanding tub under the window, a much-improved layout presented itself with an opportunity to frame a water closet with the toilet for added privacy. A large walk-in shower completes the space on the right, while the left wall is maximized with a tall linen cabinet, double sink vanity and an electric towel warmer.
After solving the floor plan issues, we moved on to the design scheme, where dramatic finishes and reeded elements flow throughout the space, creating a layered, upscale feel. We couldn’t be happier with the results of this project, and the best part was helping our clients achieve their vision for a stunning, sumptuous space.
The much-improved layout of #ProjectReededGlamBath provides space and privacy for all of the key elements of the bathroom. The freestanding tub creates a focal point under the window, with a framed water closet and walk-in shower to the right, and a spacious vanity wall to the left.
The high-contrast, monochromatic design scheme flows throughout the space, with dark stained cabinetry and black wall tile adding depth and drama. A total of five (five!) handsome wall sconces add sensual mood lighting to the space, and an electric radiator on the wall ensures a warm towel is within reach of the soaking tub.
The cabinetry features a unique ribbed-texture door style, and the almost-black “cobblestone” stain adds a hint of softness over a painted finish. His-and-hers sinks, drawer bases and metal-framed mirrors are bridged with a pullout organizer cabinet that houses a hair dryer and other styling tools.
A tall linen cabinet anchors the cabinetry installation as you walk into the bathroom and provides generous storage for towels and toiletries.
Rollout shelves inside the linen cabinet allow for easy access to everything stored inside!
Where the tiny shower once stood is now a water closet for the toilet. To allow some natural light into the space while maintaining privacy, we included a pocket door with reeded glass, nodding to the ribbed texture of the cabinetry across the room.
Rounding out the bathroom is the large walk-in shower, seamlessly clad in porcelain stone slabs. The warm veining of the Calacatta Oro pattern highlights the gold tones of the plumbing fixtures.
The unassuming digital thermostat on the wall controls – you guessed it! – a radiant heat system installed under the floor tile.
The sleek shower is minimal, but not lacking on lovely details. We framed a half-wall to act as a shelf for shower products, which our client perfectly styled with customized bottles!
Considering the placement and swing of the shower door, we placed shower controls within easy reach, opposite the showerhead and handshower. Matte black hardware on the shower glass creates an interesting mix against the gold plumbing fixtures.
While the shower’s porcelain slabs were a bit of a splurge in the overall budget, they provide a durable, non-porous and grout-free alternative to tile, and are easy to install thanks to their slim thickness. The lovely pattern emulates the warmth of Calacatta marble. We love the shower’s relative lightness as a counter point to the drama in the rest of the bathroom.
The water closet has its own glamorous detail with gold metallic vinyl wallpaper! The linear pattern is another nod to the ribbed and reeded texture of the space, complementing the cabinetry and glass panel of the pocket door. A wall cabinet and shelf above the toilet add even more storage for toilet paper and other necessities.
So many materials and details come together to deliver an immersive, luxurious experience. Just how every primary bathroom should be!
