Project: Family bathroom expansion and full remodel in Melrose, MA
This beautiful bathroom project was a satisfying example of utilizing a home’s existing floor plan to the fullest, for ultimate functionality and comfort. In this full bathroom remodel, we incorporated space from a poorly-utilized hallway landing to make the bathroom bigger, allowing for a generous walk-in shower and a larger vanity area.
Before the project, the bathroom was dated and cramped, with a small tub/shower and an even smaller vanity. We were so happy to give this awesome family a much-improved layout and a lovely, lively new look and feel!
By bumping into an oversized hallway landing area, our team captured more space for the bathroom. We ditched an outdated bathtub in favor of a beautiful new walk-in shower. A privacy wall allows light to filter into the shower while giving the vanity area a buffer, and the watercolor-like shower tile complements the light colors of the rest of the space.
We chose matte black as the finish for the faucet, cabinet hardware and light fixture, to provide interesting contrast against the soft palette of the vanity and quartz countertop.
It was so satisfying to drastically increase the storage space and functionality in this bathroom! The large sink cabinet provides ample storage for cleaning supplies and paper products, while a base of drawers and a storage tower on the countertop allow plenty of room for the family’s toiletries and towels.
The materials palette is a mix of warm and cool, with the gray-beige porcelain floor tile and quartz stone pieces balancing the soft white-gray cabinetry and ocean blue shower tile. The custom shower glass expertly notches around the shower installation for a smooth 90-degree turn.
A wall-to-counter tower cabinet adds functional storage for small toiletries and towels, drastically increasing the family’s storage in the bathroom.
From the hallway, the bathroom looks downright ginormous compared to the previous footprint. Utilizing open space on the upstairs landing allowed for a much larger and more comfortable flow into the bathroom and in-and-out of the new walk-in shower. The toilet and window stayed in their existing locations but were updated with new fixtures.
The walk-in shower features a small floating bench tucked inside the privacy wall for additional comfort, along with the shower controls installed within easy reach in the privacy wall.
Unlike the matte black faucet and cabinetry hardware, the shower highlights bright chrome plumbing fixtures, which sparkle against the ceramic tile. The floating bench and corner shelves are fabricated from the same stone as the countertop for continuity in materials, and an accent stripe of soft gray tile breaks up the height of the shower.
It was a pleasure working with this family on their bathroom remodel and we’re so pleased we could improve their use and enjoyment in their home every day!
