Project: Design-build remodel in Wakefield, consisting of a kitchen with a bar area and mud space. (#ProjectEclecticEnvy)
Project Eclectic Envy is a kitchen remodel here in Wakefield where our team assisted in all design, product, materials, and construction, from start to finish. The homeowners were previous McGuire clients, which are our favorite types of clients, as their trust and repeat business speaks beyond measure.
This kitchen remodel consists of the kitchen space which also steps down into a bar area and mud space. We were limited with getting creative with layout per the existing doors and traffic patterns, so we focused on elaborating on the existing footprint, enhancing with storage solutions, creating a more functional space for this family of five. The homeowners had bold inspirations, and we enjoyed executing many elements of color, patterns, and textures. Some may say the initial concept is busy, but we believe it’s a vibrant success that perfectly reflects the homeowners’ vision!
Within this kitchen remodel we elaborated on the existing cabinetry foot print. The layout consists of a “U” shape layout, with the sink centered on a window, cooking area to the right, a peninsula with seating at the left, and the refrigerator cabinetry span on the wall behind which integrates a step down to the bar area and mud space.
The cabinetry featured is a frameless and all plywood construction, wood dovetail drawer boxes, soft close glides, soft close hinges, a transitional version of a shaker door and drawer style, in a bold, yet timeless green painted finish that shines against the hardwood floors. We carried the painted finish to our exterior doors, door casings, window casings, crown moldings, and base moldings, which truly elevates the aesthetic.
We also elevated the efficiency in every day use of the kitchen space where we included tall cabinetry with roll out tray storage, wall cabinetry with adjustable shelves, decorative wall open shelves, drawer storage, roll out tray storage, corner accessories, a double trash unit, placement for cutlery, prep utensils, knives, cook utensils, spice storage, and vertical storage.
Another focal element on their own, the tiled vent hood! In the kitchen we exhibit a white subway tile that has a linear texture, in both a visual manner, and tactile manner. We bring the tile up to the ceiling, we wrap our vent hood in the same tile, and all is complete with the green painted finish at the crown molding. This is just one of the tiles within the remodel.
The appliance suite shown consists of a refrigerator, range, dishwasher, and beverage refrigerator in the bar area, all in a matte black finish, with brass accented handles and knobs. The matte black plays wonderfully with the green painted finish of the cabinetry and the collection creates a focal moment on their own.
Continuing with the flare, we showcase a Silgranit apron sink in a white finish that has a tapered shape. We harmonized with traditional elements such as the brass bridged faucet, fabric skirt at the sink base, and the mix of metal finishes with further brass, German bronze, and matte black; all of which prove the achievement of blending styles, materials, and finishes.
The countertops displayed are both quartz and we chose a light selection for the kitchen with a thin warm gold vein that is subtle, while we chose a medium gray for the bar area that mimics the look of concrete. Durable, low maintenance, and effective.
We take a step down from our kitchen space to our bar area and mud space on to an 8” charcoal hexagon floor tile. The floor tile is neutral, yet has a variety of charcoal tones from tile to tile. Our bar area is a continuation of cabinetry from our kitchen refrigerator span, consisting of tall storage, roll out storage, and drawer storage for all needs. We introduce another tile at the backsplash in a highly textured geometric pattern, which serves as a backdrop for the framed television, clearly concealed. Look up to a peak-a-boo of the wallpaper!
Across from the bar area, we opened up the prior closet space and created a mud space with both closed storage and open storage. We brought the bar tile over to this location, and complimented the green cabinetry finish with a stained bench top. In the bar area and mud space, we finished with a large scaled patterned wallpaper. This wallpaper pulls our cabinetry green in a pattern showing foxes, birds, rabbits, florals, and greenery. Another brave element that pulls the aesthetic together and is just stunning!
This remodel brought us so much enjoyment. We worked closely with the homeowners to flourish their vision to life. This is a smaller space that packs the punch with a variety of materials, color, pattern, and texture. The bold green cabinetry finish, quartz with veining, quartz that mimics a concrete, matte black appliances, the tile selections, the brass, the German bronze, the fabric skirt, and of course the wallpaper – we are certainly envious of all elements at Project Eclectic Envy!
